Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working to improve the legal, political and economic status of women.
The Zonta Club of Buffalo, club 001, Area 4, District 4, is the founding club of Zonta International, and was chartered on November 8, 1919 at the Statler Hotel in Buffalo, New York. As the founding club, Buffalo has chartered many of the surrounding area clubs, including Clarence-Newstead, the newest club to join District 4, on November 8, 1996.
Through community and international service projects, Zonta members enrich their personal lives as they pool their talents to make the world a better place in which to live. Zonta members are active women in business and the professions who still find time for home, family and community service.
Zonta Club of Buffalo contributions to the community have entailed both monetary and personal service. Zonta service is widely diversified and reaches into many areas of need. Funds for service are obtained each year through the loyal support of friends and the community.
Marian deForest, founder, was inducted into the Western New York Women's Hall of Fame in 1998.
